Dawn

Whatever you are doing

Whatever the significance or otherwise of the coming day

Whether it is cloudy or not

Night stars cartwheel their way through the heavens

and the moon treads lightly or darkly across the sky

Far below owls, quolls, wombats and gliders

feed, carry, walk and play in the shadow of the dawn

It is the time for the universe to forget the humans

and curl its nocturnal spirit tight around the earth

While you sleep and before the light of dawn

nature readies itself for another day of light

Your nightmares, your wars, your plans

they do not matter to this deep rhythm of time

this steady preparation of the day

this profound renewal

At dawn find yourself at peace

Find again what it is you want to write

on this new page of life

You can be a creature once again uncurled

from the secrets of the night

from whatever darkness haunts you

peaceful and at one with the earth

In this precious dawn

listen to the warm animal whisper of your spirit.

Beautiful and eerie. A beautiful, unsettling poem. Thank you, Andrew.
